Equine Insurance // Tailored Coverage
They're WorthMore ThanYou Think.
Bespoke insurance for racehorses, broodmares, and eventers — covering the gaps standard policies leave wide open.
Origin Story
Why Paddock Exists.

"What if the worst morning of your life started in the yard?"
It was 5:47 AM when our founder, James Hartley, found Copper — his 9-year-old event horse — down in the box. Pawing the ground. Drenched in sweat. Colic. The kind that needs surgery.
The surgery cost £9,400. The horse had cost £8,500.
The standard policy James had — the kind sold alongside the horse trailer — covered up to £3,000 for vet fees. A standard exclusion clause ruled out colic surgery as "elective." He was left with a £6,400 hole and a horse that couldn't compete for six months.

Out-of-pocket after standard policy
Standard policies are written for livestock. Not athletes.
James spent three weeks calling every equine insurer in the UK. Loss of use? Excluded. Fertility failure for the broodmare he'd just bought? Not a product. Transit cover that actually covered a spooked horse breaking a leg in a lorry? "We'd need to reassess."
So he built the coverage that should have existed.
Paddock launched in 2019 with a single principle: every policy should be written by someone who has stood in a cold yard at 6 AM wondering if they could afford to save their horse. We've paid £4.2M in claims since. We've never once hidden behind a clause.

After the syndicate bought our third share in a Cheltenham prospect, I needed mortality cover in place before we signed. Paddock had the certificate issued within four hours. That's the kind of speed you need when the paperwork is flying.

Our stallion covers fourteen mares a season. The fertility policy paid out when he had an infection mid-season — we recovered the covering fees and the loss of use. I don't know another insurer who even offers that product.

I trailered Biscuit to her first three-day on my own. The transit policy meant I could focus on the event, not on what would happen if the lorry broke down on the M5. We had a great weekend — and Paddock never needed to know about it.
